Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

STARTING PITCHER

Masahiro Tanaka, NYY at MIA ($46): Tanaka has a 4.03 ERA on the season, but over his last eight starts he's posted a 2.91 ERA. He's also struck out 9.24 batters per nine innings this year. The Marlins are 29th in runs scored, but their .669 team OPS is even worse, since that is lowest in the majors.

Kevin Gausman, ATL at PIT ($26): In his three starts since joining the Braves, Gausman has a 2.84 ERA. Sure, that's a small sample size, but Baltimore has had issues with its pitchers, and other hurlers have left the team and seen their performances improve. Plus, Gausman is supported by a much better offense than he was as an Oriole. The Pirates' offense is average, but at this price Gausman is still worth a shot.

CATCHER

J.T. Realmuto, MIA vs. NYY ($14): Realmuto has averaged 7.2 fantasy points per game, most of any catcher. He's basically matchup proof, at least against right-handed pitchers. The catcher has slashed .317/.371/.535 versus righties, and Masahiro Tanaka is one of those righties. Being able to get Realmuto at this price feels like a steal.

FIRST BASE

Justin Smoak, TOR vs. BAL ($17): Smoak hasn't quite performed as he did in his breakout 2017 campaign, but he still has a .365 OBP, and he's still smacked 18 homers in 116 games. He's hit two more homers on the road than at home, but otherwise his numbers in Toronto are decidedly better. Of course, hitting homers against Dylan Bundy hasn't been hard. He's allowed 2.05 homers per nine innings.

SECOND BASE

DJ LeMahieu, COL vs. SAN ($16): LeMahieu has always hit lefties better than righties, and that includes this year. Over the last three years he's had a slugging percentage over .500 versus southpaws. Fortunately for him, Padres starter Robbie Erlin is a lefty. Erlin also has a 4.55 ERA on the road, and Coors Field is not kind to pitchers by and large.

THIRD BASE

Travis Shaw, MIL vs. CIN ($18): Shaw has absolutely crushed righties, as he has a .890 OPS against them. He's also hit 24 of his 25 homers versus right handers. Cincinnati's Sal Romano, who is a righty, has a 5.31 ERA. On top of that, he's allowed 1.53 home runs per nine innings.

SHORTSTOP

Carlos Correa, HOU at SEA ($17): Sure, Correa has struggled since returning from injury, but he's still Carlos Correa. He has a career slash line of .282/.361/.489. The 23-year-old has averaged 6.9 fantasy points per game despite his recent scuffling. Mike Leake has a 4.15 FIP, and he has a 4.29 ERA at home. Maybe this will be the game where Correa starts turning it around.

OUTFIELD

Rhys Hoskins, PHI at WAS ($23): Hoskins wasn't able to replicate his torrid performance in 2017, but he's still been a great hitter this year. The 25-year-old has been particularly hot recently to boot. Over his last 30 contests, he's posted a 1.013 OPS with 11 homers. Tanner Roark has had the opposite experience recently. In his last 15 starts he has a 4.87 ERA.

Andrew McCutchen, SF at NYM ($18): McCutchen's power isn't what it used to be, but he has 14 homers in 122 games. On top of that, he's stolen 10 bases. The veteran can also still get on base, as he has a .354 OBP. For the second year in a row, Steven Matz has a FIP over 5.00, and he's allowed 1.59 homers per nine innings over the last two seasons.

Nick Markakis, ATL at PIT ($17): Markakis has averaged a surprising 7.1 fantasy points per game, and his numbers never dropped off after his hot start. He has a .318/.379/.489 slash line, and he's hit lefties and righties well, and also been totally fine on the road. Meanwhile, Ivan Nova has a 4.60 FIP, and in his career he has a 4.29 FIP.
