Pittsburgh Steelers RB Roles
Team: Pittsburgh Steelers
Last Update:   4/28/2024
RB Overview
Role Security: Medium
04/27/24 Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren are likely to share work. Both can be used in any situation, though Harris is more likely to see more rushing attempts on early downs. However, Warren is expected to have a larger role than Harris as a receiver. Finally, both may see work near the goal line, though Harris may see more opportunities than Warren when the Steelers get inside the 10-yard line.
WR Overview
04/27/24 George Pickens is the clear alpha receiver. However, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith tends to lean heavily on the rushing attack. It's possible Pickens is held near 110 targets, which is low for a lead receiver. Third-round rookie Roman Wilson, Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin and Denzel Mims will compete for work behind Pickens. The ancillary receiving roles may not be determined until training camp.
TE Overview
04/27/24 Pat Freirmuth is the lead TE and should dominate the tight end targets. Coach Arthur Smith has frequently used multiple tight ends on the field, so Darnell Washington and Connor Heyward may see significant playing time. Washington and Heyward may also have weeks where one sees elevated target totals.
