New England Patriots RB Roles
Team: New England Patriots
Last Update:   4/27/2024
RB Overview
Role Security: High
04/27/24 Rhamondre Stevenson is the lead back. Although he should get most of the early-down and goal-line work, Stevenson is also a good receiver. As a result, it's not a lock that Antonio Gibson is the full-time receiving RB. Gibson should see change-of-pace work. It's also possible that Gibson does become the primary pass catcher. Kevin Harris is the No. 3 and will compete for a depth role.
WR Overview
04/27/24 Kendrick Bourne is returning from a torn ACL, but he's currently the No. 1 receiver on the depth chart. Demario Douglas was often used in the slot last year. Given Douglas' small size, it's unlikely he can be a regular option on the outside. If the second outside receiver is needed for blocking, K.J. Osborn is a natural fit for that role. Otherwise, the Patriots used the No. 37 pick in this year's draft to select Ja'Lynn Polk. The rookie profiles as a possession receiver. Given the draft capital, Polk will likely have the edge over Osborn for a starting role. Fourth-round rookie Javon Baker was one of the slowest wide receivers at the Combine. The rookie will likely compete for a depth role. JuJu Smith-Schuster was not productive last year, and he will likely compete for a depth role.
TE Overview
04/27/24 Hunter Henry was signed to a new contract in the offseason. Henry will be the lead TE and see most of the targets.
