Houston Texans RB Roles
Team: Houston Texans
Last Update:   6/19/2025
RB Overview
Role Security: Very High
6/19/25 - Joe Mixon is the No. 1 RB and averaged 15 carries and 4 targets from Week 11 on with 82% of the red-zone work, and he could see less work in 2025. The reason Mixon may see reduced usage is the team’s signing of Nick Chubb in free agency. If Chubb returns to form following injury, it wouldn’t be surprising if he eventually takes over the lead role. Regardless, Mixon and Chubb are locked in as the top-two backs. Woody Marks and Dameon Pierce will compete for depth roles.
WR Overview
6/19/25 - Nico Collins was targeted 99 times in 12 games as the No. 1 WR and should remain a high-volume option. Houston drafted Jayden Higgins in the second round, and he projects as a full-time outside WR opposite Collins. The Texans also traded for Christian Kirk, who will likely compete with Tank Dell for slot snaps and the No. 3 role. John Metchie and Xavier Hutchinson will compete for depth roles.
TE Overview
6/19/25 - Dalton Schultz is the lead tight end, but with a deep and talented wide receiver corps, his weekly target share may fluctuate. Brevin Jordan and rookie Cade Stover are expected to battle for the No. 2 TE job.
