NFL Position Roles - Los Angeles Chargers

04/27/24 Gus Edwards is the lead back. Edwards is expected to see the majority of work on early downs and near the goal line. Currently, the team has no clear cut receiving RB. Isaiah Spiller and Elijah Dotson will compete for change-of-pace work as well as snaps as a receiving RB. Sixth-round rookie Kimani Vidal could earn work if Edwards and/or Dobbins struggle.

04/27/24 Josh Palmer is currently in line to be the No. 1 receiver. Palmer will likely be in a full-time role. The Chargers used the No. 34 pick in this year's draft to select Ladd McConkey. McConkey should be the favorite to dominate slot snaps. However, the rookie should compete with Quentin Johnston for a starting role in two-receiver sets. After a disappointing rookie season, Quentin Johnston may be competing with McConkey for an outside role. That said, Johnston should be on the field in three-receiver sets. Seventh-round rookie Brendan Rice, Derius Davis and Simi Fehoko will have a chance to earn rotational roles in the offense.

04/27/24 The Chargers will likely have a tight end by committee. They have four players who may be fairly equally talented. Free agent additions Will Dissly and Hayden Hurst join holdovers Donald Parham and Stone Smartt.
