The Skinny

The Sparks figure to be without Candace Parker (ankle) in this one, but that shouldn't stop a team with one of the highest-paced offensive attacks in the league, behind only the Aces and the Liberty. Nneka Ogwumike has been her team's most consistent contributors on the offensive end of the court this season, and she continued to have her way in a loss to Dallas on Tuesday, registering 15 points to go along with 10 boards, two assists, two steals and a block. She's put up back-to-back double-doubles and is averaging 14.9 points and 9.3 rebounds over 13 games this year. Riquna Williams will also be a player to keep an eye on heading into Friday's clash, as she's pieced together four straight double-digit scoring performances while also managing to contribute across the board. She put up 14 points and snagged three boards in Tuesday's loss to Dallas. Expect more of the same from each of these players in what will be the first matchup between these two teams on the season.

The Fever, on the other hand, run one of the slowest-paced offenses in the WNBA, checking in at third last. Despite this, they did total 71 points in their last matchup, so they certainly have enough firepower to outscore other teams around the league. Kelsey Mitchell leads the pack with 14.4 PPG on the year, though she's been held to just 19 total points over her last two contests. Teaira McCowan, who joined the starting five in place of Natalie Achonwa in Wednesday's matchup, poured in 11 points to go with 12 rebounds and three steals, so it'll be interesting to see if she sticks with the first unit heading into Friday's game. Candice Dupree also turned in a solid performance in her squad's loss to Dallas, tallying 13 points, five boards, a steal and a block.

The Skinny

Minnesota ranks near the middle of the pack when it comes to their pace of play, though their defense has been solid to this point, giving up just 74.3 points per contest this season. While their offense won't shoot anyone out of the gym, they've managed to put up 73 or more points in each of their last eight matchups, proving they have enough firepower to hold their own. The Lynx have been led this year by Odyssey Sims, who is averaging 16.2 PPG and poured in 16 points to go along with four rebounds, four assists and two steals in her squad's last matchup Wednesday against the Sky. Sylvia Fowles has also been a key piece of the puzzle on the offensive end, as she's registered four consecutive double-digit scoring performances, including a double-double Wednesday (10 points and 12 rebounds). Minnesota bested the Dream the last time these two teams met July 2, as the Lynx brought home a convincing 85-68 victory.

Despite losing in an embarrassing fashion to the Lynx at the beginning of the month, Atlanta created some momentum Wednesday with a 78-75 victory over the Sun. As per usual, Tiffany Hayes led the charge with 18 points, three assists and a rebound. Elizabeth Williams also stepped up in a big way for the Dream, finishing with 17 points, nine boards, four blocks and three assists. Atlanta has been held under 70 points in three of their last five games and they're allowing 78.3 PPG on the 2019 campaign, so this matchup doesn't appear overly enticing. Even so, they'll look to even the season series with a win over the Lynx on Friday.

The Skinny

Phoenix is the owner of the slowest-paced offense in the WNBA, though you never would've guessed that based on the 91 points they put up in Wednesday's 91-68 victory over Washington. Britney Griner dominated throughout the night, ultimately finishing with 25 points along with eight rebounds, four assists, a steal and two blocks. Unsurprisingly, DeWanna Bonner was close on Griner's heels, pouring in 22 points of her own. This duo has been responsible for the majority of the Mercury's scoring thus far in 2019, and they'll aim to continue that trend heading into Friday night's matchup with the Sun.

Connecticut is coming off a three-point loss to the Dream on Wednesday, and while they sit near the middle of the pack when it comes to their offensive pace, they've experienced success on defense this season, ranking fourth in defensive efficiency (96.6). Jonquel Jones leads the Sun with 15.2 PPG on the year, though she's been held in check of late, scoring just 16 points over her team's last two matchups. It was Courtney Williams and Bria Holmes who led the pack in the scoring department Wednesday night, scoring 13 and 12 points, respectively. Friday marks the first time these two teams have met in 2019.

The Skinny

The Liberty are coming off a tough 90-58 loss at the hands of the Aces on Sunday, a day that marked their lowest scoring total on the season. As has been the case in the past, Tina Charles was one of the lone bright spots in the loss, finishing with 13 points, eight rebounds and an assist. Despite putting up just six points Sunday, Kia Nurse will certainly be someone to watch for Friday, as she's scored 20-plus points in two of her last three contests. She also is averaging 16 points over 15 games this year, which is good enough for second on the squad behind Charles. It also won't hurt that the Liberty will get their starting center back from EuroBasket in Amanda Zahui B -- Zahui B has been a force to reckon with in the post, averaging 11.4 points along with 7.8 rebounds over nine starts. Han Xu's fantasy production could suffer as a result. Bria Hartley has also returned from the team from EuroBasket, and although she hasn't had nearly the impact that Zahui B has had this season, she's been a key contributor off the bench and is averaging nine points and five rebounds over five matchups. The return of this duo could be just what the Liberty needs to get back on track following an ugly loss. New York is known for their high-tempo style of play on the offensive end of the court and for putting up big offensive numbers, though they also own one of the worst defenses in the league, which has led to their downfall in the past. The Sky look to be a tough opponent for the Liberty, though there's a good chance Chicago will struggle to keep such an explosive offense down for a second straight game.

Chicago emerged victorious the first time these two teams met this season, winning by a score of 91-83 in what turned out to be a track meet. Much like the Liberty, the Sky possesses a surplus of offensive talent, and are typically led by Diamond DeShields, who averages 14.1 PPG and 5.9 RPG. Allie Quigley has also stepped in as one of the key pieces on offense for her club, and she poured in an eye-popping 24 points to go with four rebounds, two steals and an assist in Wednesday's one-point loss to Minnesota. In order Chicago to bounce back and take a 2-0 series lead on the Liberty, they'll need strong performances from both DeShields and Quigley in what figures to be another high-scoring affair.

The Skinny

The Wings will face the Storm for the first time this season Friday, and momentum will be on Dallas' side, as they look to make it two straight victories after defeating the Sparks by a score of 74-62 Tuesday evening. Like Seattle, the Wings invest in a slow and steady philosophy when they have the ball, checking in at second-to-last in terms of pace. Fortunately, they've been impressive on defense so far in 2019, holding opponents to just 73.7 PPG, which is good enough for second in the league. Arike Ogunbowale, a rookie, has been the offensive leader of the bunch in 2019, averaging 14.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists across 13 contests (eight starts). She's coming off a poor shooting performance (5-for-14 from the field), though she still managed to register 14 points on the night. Kayla Thornton is the only other player on the squad who regularly scores in double-digits (11.5 PPG), and she tallied a team-high 17 points in Tuesday's win over Los Angeles.

Seattle has had a week off to rest since last taking the court against the Dream in a 77-66 loss, so they'll be well-rested for Friday's matchup. The Storm run one of the slowest offenses in the league, but they also have one of the most impressive defenses, and they allow the fewest points per game (72.9). Dallas is also on the slow end of the spectrum in relation to pace, so there's no reason to believe that this game will turn into a high-scoring event. For the Storm, Natasha Howard will look to turn in her third consecutive performance of 15 or more points, and she's also finished in double figures in all but one game so far in 2019. Jewell Loyd (ankle) checks in at second on the team with 15.8 PPG, but she's not expected to return in time for Friday's matchup, putting pressure on Jordin Canada, who's registered 10 or more points in each of her last four contests.
